Commonwealth Secretariat Roundtable event in London
Special event by the Commonwealth Secretariat Library and Archives team and the Association of Business Historians
In a special event developed with the Commonwealth Secretariat Library and archives team, the Association of Business Historians (ABH) is convening a half day roundtable from 14.30-18.00 on Thursday 10th July in London. This will be held at Marlborough House on Pall Mall, the international headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat which has been the venue for independence negotiations and many Commonwealth conferences, including Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings.
The meeting aims to highlight the value and use of Commonwealth archives especially at Marlborough House, Senate House and in the National Archives. Several speakers will highlight their use of archives related to business history in different collections. There will also be a tour of Marlborough House and a visit to its Library including a view of key archives.
The Commonwealth library and archives contain books by and about the Commonwealth, as well as historical documents about the work of the Commonwealth and its 56 member countries dating back to 1965. They exist to help staff, member governments, academics, students and other members of the public understand and research the history and work of the Commonwealth. The archives are held as physical document collections within the library. There is also an Online catalogue.
As well as ABH members, others due to attend include Professor Stephanie Decker, University of Birmingham and Dr Andrew Dilley, University of Aberdeen with other key guests invited.
A limited number of places are available for ABH members. There is no charge to attend. Please email arif.zaman@bil.ac.uk by 27 June (Arif is attending the ABH conference in Belfast).
